Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky may meet soon. This was stated by US President Donald Trump at a joint press conference with Zelensky after negotiations on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
"I think, and I hope, this will happen in the near future," Trump said.
The US president also said there has been "good progress" in resolving the conflict in Ukraine over the past few weeks. According to him, both Moscow and Kyiv are interested in ending the war.
Additionally, Trump noted Russia's high military capability and said he plans to speak with Putin by phone on July 9.
The previous phone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the US took place on July 4 at the initiative of the American side. According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral and international agendas, including the issue of resolving the conflict in Ukraine ahead of the NATO summit in Turkey.
