2 billion tenge in question: Petropavlovsk investigates embezzlement case during bridge construction

The Department of the Agency for Financial Monitoring for North Kazakhstan Region is conducting a pre-trial investigation into the embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the construction of a road bridge in Petropavlovsk.

As reported by the agency, in August 2023, a contract for the construction of the facility worth 5.4 billion tenge was signed between the city department of housing and communal services, passenger transport and highways and the contractor BUKA LLP.

During the execution of the contract, according to the investigation, the contractor systematically fell behind schedule. At the same time, according to law enforcement, the head of the company colluded with certain officials of the customer. As a result, acts containing false information about the volume of work performed were drawn up and signed.

Based on these documents, budget funds were allegedly transferred to the contractor without justification.

According to preliminary data, the state has suffered damage of over 2 billion tenge.

By court order, 24 vehicles and special equipment worth more than 270 million tenge have been seized.

One of the suspects has been remanded in custody.

The investigation continues. Other information is not subject to disclosure in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
