The Almaty City Prosecutor's Office has released new details regarding the investigation into a major traffic accident on Al-Farabi Avenue that resulted in three deaths, reports Todayinfo.
According to the supervisory authority, the criminal case is now being investigated under Part 4 of Article 345-1 of the Criminal Code (driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, negligently causing the death of two or more persons). This article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 7 to 10 years with a lifetime ban on engaging in certain activities.
Additionally, another criminal case has been registered in connection with this incident regarding the inaction of a police officer. The case is being investigated under paragraph 1 of Part 4 of Article 370 of the Criminal Code (inaction in office, resulting in serious consequences). This article provides for a penalty of up to 7 years of imprisonment or restriction of freedom, with confiscation of property and a lifetime ban on holding certain positions.
The prosecutor's office reported that all necessary investigative actions are currently underway and expert examinations have been appointed. Several officials have also been subjected to disciplinary action.
The accident occurred on the night of March 21 at the intersection of Al-Farabi Avenue and Mendikulov Street. A Zeekr vehicle drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Mercedes. As a result of the crash, the 29-year-old Mercedes driver and his two passengers, women aged 20 and 22, died at the scene. The driver of the Zeekr was hospitalized with various injuries.
