Residents of Almaty have proposed renaming Rozybakiev Street in honor of poet and statesman Mukhtar Shakhanov, reports Todayinfo news agency.
The petition suggests giving the writer's name to one of the city's longest streets, about 7 km long, passing through Bostandyk and Almaly districts. The authors note that the poet lived and worked in this city.
At the same time, the initiators propose preserving the memory of Abdulla Rozybakiev by installing a memorial plaque or naming another object after him.
Bakhyt Kalymbet, head of the language development and onomastics department of the city's internal policy department, confirmed that the authorities receive many such proposals.
