The Ministry of Culture and Information has developed new rules for organizations responsible for the protection and use of historical and cultural heritage sites, reports Todayinfo news agency. The relevant document was signed by Minister Aida Balayeva.
According to the published information, such organizations will be established by decision of akimats in the form of municipal state institutions. They will be tasked with monitoring the preservation of historical and cultural monuments, conducting scientific research, monitoring, and preparing documents for the installation of new monuments, steles, and busts.
The main work of the organizations includes: maintaining documentation on historical and cultural heritage sites; annual inspection of the technical condition of monuments; organizing exhibitions, lectures, excursions, and other events; cooperation with scientific, educational, and international organizations. The structures will also prepare proposals for including objects in the state list of monuments of local and republican significance, develop protection zones, carry out restoration, and conclude protection agreements.
Recall that the destruction of historical monuments in Almaty that are in private ownership has caused public discontent. One of the recent incidents is the demolition of the Zhetysu Hotel, where Leon Trotsky once stayed. On social media, the fate of the Verny Fortress was recalled, where in 2005 it was planned to create a Museum of Nomadic Civilization and Military Art. Now the historical Verny Fortress in Almaty has turned into a garbage dump.
