On Sunday, April 26, a bus exploded on the Pan-American Highway in the Cauca department of Colombia, killing at least 14 people and injuring 38. Five of the injured are children. This was reported by Todayinfo.kz citing DW.
Department Governor Octavio Guzman called the incident an "indiscriminate attack against civilians." According to witnesses, the explosion was so powerful that they were thrown several meters.
Authorities believe the "Jaime Martinez" group is responsible for the terrorist attack. This group unites former fighters of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) who refused to disarm as part of the peace agreement.
According to the AP agency citing local authorities, at least 26 incidents with civilian casualties have been recorded in southwestern Colombia over the past two days. The escalation of violence coincided with the final stage of the election campaign — the presidential election in Colombia is scheduled for May 31.
