A Kazakhstani citizen sentenced to life imprisonment in Dubai for serious crimes will not be returned to his homeland yet. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Bakayev on the sidelines of the Mazhilis, reports Todayinfo.kz news agency.
The Deputy Minister said that the Kazakhstani has filed an appeal against the verdict. Therefore, a decision on this appeal must be awaited first.
"First, the court process must be fully completed. Only after that will the issue of his return be considered. Lawyers and our consulate general are actively working in this direction," the Deputy Minister said.
Journalists asked whether Yernur's relatives had sought help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to Bakayev, no such request has been received by the ministry. However, the consulate general is in contact with the relatives.
"There are allegations of a number of gross violations of the law in the case. But I will not go into details now. Everything is stated in the court decision. I think the lawyer has all the information. In this case, the main work lies with the defense, while the embassy, in turn, provides necessary assistance. We will definitely help, because in such a situation we protect our citizens," Bakayev said.
