On April 29, the death of Bakhyt Tumenova, president of the Aman-Saulyk foundation, was announced. The information appeared on her Facebook page, reports Todayinfo.
Bakhyt Tumenova was born in 1948 in Kyzylorda and graduated from Semipalatinsk Medical Institute with a degree in pediatrics. She worked in the healthcare system for nearly 30 years, rising from doctor to leadership positions, headed the regional department, and later oversaw the social block in the akimat. From 1998 to 2001, she served as deputy akim of Pavlodar region.
She was a member of commissions studying the consequences of nuclear tests and worked on public and expert councils under the Ministry of Health and the Almaty akimat. In the early 2000s, Tumenova moved from civil service to politics, participating in the formation of the Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan movement and the Alga party.
Afterwards, she focused on the civil sector, founding the Aman-Saulyk foundation, which she led for nearly 20 years. The organization advocates for patients' rights and promotes disease prevention.
“She was a person with a firm, rock-solid stance on understanding freedom… From the very day the DCK movement was founded, she left civil service and joined the opposition,” wrote Majilis deputy Yermurat Bapi.
He also noted that Tumenova later worked in the Alga and Alga, DCK parties, remaining true to her position: “Despite the fact that registration was never granted and the project fell apart, Bakhyt Niyazbekovna did not retreat and created the NGO Aman-Saulyk, which she led until the end of her life. Her bright image will remain in our hearts,” the deputy added.
Tumenova was described as a principled specialist and a person for whom work in healthcare became a life's mission. She promoted the idea of responsibility for health through education and support for people.
