An unusual April heatwave is scorching northwestern and central India, with temperatures exceeding 46°C in some areas, reports Todayinfo.
According to meteorologists, this heatwave is unseasonal — such temperatures are typically observed only in July and August. The states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh are currently the most affected.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a 'red' alert for several regions, urging residents to stay indoors from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The heat has caused a surge in electricity demand, leading to power outages in some areas. The Ministry of Health reported an increase in heatstroke cases and placed hospitals on high alert.
Experts suggest this heatwave may be linked to climate change. Extreme weather events have become more frequent in India in recent years.
