The Ministries of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, in close cooperation, have successfully disrupted an external transnational channel for the supply of opium-group drugs, reports Todayinfo.
"As part of a joint special operation in Shymkent, two citizens of Kazakhstan were detained, from whom about 5 kg of Afghan-origin opium were seized. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The detainees have been placed in a temporary detention facility. Currently, the issue of additional qualification of their actions for drug smuggling and participation in a transnational organized criminal group is being considered," said Bakytzhan Amirkhanov, head of the anti-drug crime committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, as part of strengthening international cooperation, continues targeted special operations to eliminate external drug supply channels both into Kazakhstan and their transit through the country.
