In Kazakhstan, a group illegally circulating citizens' personal data has been detained, reports Todayinfo news agency.

The National Security Committee (NSC) stopped the activities of a group that illegally collected and distributed personal data in Astana and Almaty. The investigation revealed that confidential information of citizens was distributed via the internet and used in the financial sector, reports Todayinfo news agency.

According to the NSC, in March this year, during operations coordinated by the prosecutor's office, suspects illegally collected and sold personal data of Kazakhstani citizens. The information put up for sale online was purchased by microfinance and collection organizations, as well as individuals.

"According to the investigation, the individuals involved sold illegally obtained information online. Among the buyers were representatives of microfinance and collection organizations, as well as private individuals," the NSC statement said.

During searches, computer equipment, electronic storage media, large sums of money, and other physical evidence were seized. A pre-trial investigation is underway under Articles 147, 208, and 210 of the Criminal Code. Additional information is not disclosed in accordance with Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
