A historic moment occurred at the London Marathon: Kenyan runner Sebastian Save finished with a time of 1 hour 59 minutes and 30 seconds, setting a new world record. He became the first person to officially run a marathon faster than two hours, reports Todayinfo.
The previous record (2:00:35) belonged to Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum, set in Chicago in 2023. Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha finished second with 1:59:41, and Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo took third with 2:00:28.
Save earned $55,000 for the win, $150,000 for finishing under 2:02, and $125,000 for the world record, totaling $330,000 in prize money.
“I will never forget this day,” the athlete said at the finish line.
Breaking the two-hour barrier was long considered nearly impossible. This achievement may mark the beginning of a new era in marathon running, where the limits of human potential are redefined.
