People's Writer of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Shakhanov shared his thoughts about leaving the country in an interview with Aman Tasygan, reports Todayinfo.kz.
He asked the poet: "Are there moments when you want to leave this country, to go away?"
"I was born in this country, and I will die in this country. I could have left. In other countries, I have even more respect. But in our own country, we are disliked for telling the truth," he said.
Additionally, Shakhanov answered the question: "Have you received a worthy assessment from the country?"
"Well, after death they usually appreciate. I think they will appreciate me after death. At one time, I was awarded the title 'People's Hero'. I refused. In our country, any thief in prison has at least 2-3 orders and medals. I don't want to be among them, so I refused," said Mukhtar Shakhanov.
