Almaty has experienced record rainfall, with over half of the monthly precipitation norm falling within a single day, reports Todayinfo. Due to the prolonged downpours, communal services have been switched to an enhanced operational mode.
According to the akimat, from 11:00 on May 10 to 20:00 on May 11, Almaty received 50.4 millimeters of precipitation. This accounts for 51 percent of May's monthly norm, which is 99 millimeters.
"City services continue their efforts to prevent and eliminate localized flooding. Employees of the Almaty Rescue Service are on additional duty," the akimat's statement said.
According to the Almaty City Department of Emergency Situations, precipitation is not expected to cease anytime soon. Forecasters predict that the rains will continue in the coming days.
