Six regions of Kazakhstan are bracing for frosts on the night of May 11, reports Todayinfo.
In Kostanay, Pavlodar, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Karaganda, and North Kazakhstan regions, air temperatures are predicted to drop to -1…-6 degrees Celsius overnight.
Spring frosts pose a particular threat to seedlings of heat-loving vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants) and garden flowers. They can cause even greater damage to fruit crops than prolonged winter cold.
While dormant plants can withstand extended low temperatures, sudden spring frosts destroy young shoots, leaves, buds, flowers, and fruit ovaries.
Additionally, a storm warning for May 11 indicates that wind gusts in several regions could reach 15-28 meters per second.
