In the Atyrau region, Tengizchevroil has been fined 53.7 million tenge for exceeding pollutant emission standards, reports Todayinfo.
The violation was identified by experts from the regional ecology department during a document review. According to the agency, the company significantly exceeded emission limits. The administrative case was forwarded to the Zhylyoi District Court.
“By a court ruling dated April 20, 2026, Tengizchevroil LLP was found guilty and held administratively liable,” the agency stated.
Tengizchevroil recently began a phased restoration of oil production at the Tengiz field after a shutdown. The cause was a technical malfunction in the power distribution systems and precautionary measures. The company noted that the accident occurred due to a transformer fire between two gas turbine generators. In March of this year, another fire broke out at the plant, temporarily halting operations.
