A welcoming ceremony for Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, who arrived in Kazakhstan on a state visit, was held at Akorda.
After official events, heads of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh held talks in a narrow format, which later continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegation members.
The parties noted that cooperation between Kazakhstan and Mongolia is developing in the spirit of friendship, mutual support and strategic partnership.
The President of Kazakhstan thanked the Mongolian leader for the visit and warmly recalled his trip to Mongolia in October 2024. According to him, important agreements were reached then that allowed bilateral relations to be raised to a new level.
The head of state emphasized the strengthening of trade and economic ties and the growth of trade turnover between the countries. He noted that a Kazakh-Mongolian business forum with the participation of companies from Mongolia is taking place in Astana, and Kazakhstan supports the development of business cooperation.
According to the Kazakh side, in 2025 the volume of mutual trade increased by 7.7% and exceeded 130 million dollars.
The President of Mongolia expressed confidence that his visit will give additional impetus to the development of bilateral relations. He emphasized that Kazakhstan became the first state in Central Asia with which Mongolia established a strategic partnership.
According to him, the priority of Mongolia's foreign policy is to further strengthen cooperation with Kazakhstan, including expanding trade and economic ties. He recalled that following the visit of the President of Kazakhstan in 2024, a roadmap for the development of cooperation for 2025–2027 was adopted, providing for an increase in trade turnover to 500 million dollars.
Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh also congratulated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the successful holding of the national referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution, noting its importance for the further development of the country.
During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in agriculture, light industry, digitalization, mining, tourism, transport and logistics, as well as issues of interregional interaction.
The heads of state emphasized the importance of intensifying the work of the Intergovernmental Commission, resuming air traffic on the routes Astana – Ulaanbaatar and Ust-Kamenogorsk – Ulgii, as well as working out the issue of opening direct road communication between the countries.
The President of Kazakhstan also expressed gratitude to the Mongolian side for supporting the opening of a consular office of Kazakhstan in Bayan-Ulgii aimag.
In addition, issues of expanding cooperation in the fields of education, culture and tourism were discussed.
