Victory Day in Almaty Region: Akim Congratulates Veterans

In honor of the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, a gathering dedicated to commemorating the heroes who sacrificed their lives for a bright future was held at the Glory Memorial in the 'Veterans' Park' in the center of Almaty region, reports Todayinfo.

The purpose of the event was to glorify the heroism of World War II veterans, pay tribute to home front workers, and foster patriotism and historical memory among the younger generation.

Those gathered observed a minute of silence in memory of the heroes who fell on the battlefields and whose remains lie in foreign lands. Following this, Regional Akim Marat Sultangaziyev delivered a speech, stating that honoring the few remaining war veterans among us is a sacred duty for everyone.

During the war years, 1 million 366 thousand soldiers from our country went to the front. More than 120 thousand of them were from the Almaty region. Thousands of heroes did not return from the front lines. 40 soldiers from the Almaty region, who showed exceptional courage in the war, were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. This is clear evidence that our people, without sparing their lives for the Motherland, showed an immortal example of courage and heroism.

The Akimat of Almaty Region annually provides social, material, and moral support measures. This year, following established tradition, 4 war veterans from the Almaty region received a one-time social assistance payment of 5 million tenge each.

Home front workers also made a significant contribution to achieving Victory. During the war years, they took on heavy labor and great responsibility, working day and night to provide the front with food, clothing, and necessary equipment.

Their tireless efforts became one of the most important forces that hastened Victory. Today, there are 2,038 home front veterans in our region. The life path of each of them is an example for future generations, and their selfless work will forever remain in the memory of the people, – said the regional akim.

At the end of the event, the head of the region, the chairman of the regional maslikhat, the chairman of the veterans' organization, the akim of Konaev city, heads of law enforcement agencies, military units, departments and administrations, maslikhat deputies, home front and labor veterans, participants of the Afghan War, honorary citizens of the region and the city, heads of institutions and enterprises, members of ethnocultural associations, and youth laid flower baskets at the 'Eternal Flame,' paying tribute to the heroes.

On the eve of Victory Day, Marat Eleusizuly personally visited the homes of living war veterans residing in the region and conveyed congratulations from the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The festive event in Konaev city continued in the central park named after Berdibek Sokpakbayev. The concert program featured military-patriotic songs and performances by cultural and artistic groups. Additionally, patriotic actions by youth were organized, and the city akim visited the homes of home front workers to congratulate them on the holiday.
