Police have launched a criminal investigation after antique weapons were discovered in a Nazarbayev University apartment in Astana, reports Todayinfo.
On April 21, Mazhilis deputy Murat Abenov announced on social media the arrest of two foreigners in the Highvill residential complex in Astana. According to him, they were detained with an arsenal of weapons in a 'Nazarbayev University apartment'. At the time, the police department noted that weapons were indeed brought into the residential complex, but they were antique. According to expert conclusions, they do not belong to modern combat weapons. No threat to residents was established.
During a plenary session of the Mazhilis, Abenov recalled this incident and asked a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs whether citizens had the right to store antique weapons in an apartment.
Weapons were found at Nazarbayev University. Do people who are not apartment owners and for whom the apartment is not intended for storage have the right to keep weapons there? Last time you somehow refuted the information. And people understood that, most likely, one could walk the streets with weapons. But I believe it is not very correct to state that. I ask you to answer these questions, — the Mazhilis deputy appealed.
Vice-Minister of Internal Affairs Sanjar Adilov thanked the deputy for his vigilance and for informing the police.
Indeed, we acted on this signal. An investigative operational group went out, opened a criminal case in accordance with the law, and seized the weapons. Currently, I am personally in touch with you. Now I have instructed specialists from the Center for Forensic Examinations to conduct an additional, comprehensive, large-scale examination. Let's wait for its results; I will definitely report them to you, — said the Vice-Minister.
He added that the weapon documents would also be checked. Adilov did not disclose other circumstances of the case, citing the secrecy of the investigation.
