Earlier, public activists published a petition to name the street after the poet. It has now been supported by about 10,000 people.
However, a man online opposed this initiative. According to him, Rozybakiev is “a person who made great contributions to Kazakhstan.” Renaming the street after “a person who justified the December rioters” is an inappropriate decision, he said.
“Let’s remember Rozybakiev’s contributions to Kazakhstan. And what about that ‘unnamable’ person? This is not what the Almaty residents I know do. Maybe they are not even from Almaty,” he said. After this video, lawyer Meirman Shekeyev said he would not allow insulting Shakhanov.
“Of course, we have no grievances against Rozybakiev. However, we will not allow insults to our national pride. I have filed a complaint against him,” the lawyer said.
