The United States, United Kingdom, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) swiftly removed 13 kilograms of highly enriched uranium from Venezuela, reports Todayinfo.

This operation involved the removal of all remaining highly enriched uranium from a decommissioned research reactor in Venezuela. The material will now be reprocessed into high-assay low-enriched uranium for use in the United States.

The US, Venezuela, the UK, and the IAEA collaborated closely on the operation to transport 13 kilograms of highly enriched uranium (HEU) from the shut-down RV-1 research reactor of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC), located 15 km southwest of the capital, Caracas.

The material was delivered to the US Department of Energy's (DOE) Savannah River site in South Carolina, where the DOE's Office of Environmental Management took responsibility for it. The carefully planned joint mission was conducted under strict security measures.
