Bankruptcy rules have changed in Kazakhstan. It is now impossible to write off debts to pawnshops through out-of-court bankruptcy, reports Todayinfo.
The Ministry of Finance, by order dated April 22, 2026, clarified the procedure for writing off debts of individuals. The key change is a ban on writing off debts to pawnshops under out-of-court bankruptcy. The procedure deadlines have also been revised.
If the debt amount does not exceed 1,600 MCI (in 2026 – 6.92 million tenge) and obligations have not been fulfilled for more than five years, the application review period is reduced to one month. For microloans, the procedure period may be extended – beyond the previously established six-month period.
Citizens with debts of less than 1,600 MCI, with no property (including shares in joint ownership), and who have not repaid debts to creditors for 12 consecutive months at the time of application are eligible for out-of-court bankruptcy.
