Construction of the locomotive plant in Atbasar has been halted. This was announced at a briefing in the Government of Kazakhstan by Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov, reports Todayinfo.
According to him, the plant was planned to be built by a Chinese investor, but they failed to secure financing, so construction work has been suspended. The state is now looking for a new investor.
“Today, the locomotive fleet in Kazakhstan is fully provided. But in the future, when the service life of a number of locomotives begins to expire, then investors will continue to build the plant,” Kaliakparov said.
The vice minister clarified that the plant was planned to be built on the basis of an existing enterprise. He also admitted that the financing issue was not fully resolved when the agreement with the Chinese investor was concluded.
