A serious railway accident occurred at East Bekasi Railway Station in the city of Bekasi, Indonesia. A commuter train (CommuterLine) collided with a diesel long-distance train (KRD), injuring dozens of passengers, reports Todayinfo.

The incident happened in the evening. According to preliminary data, the commuter train was standing on the first track heading towards Cikarang when another train entered the same track from the opposite direction, causing the collision. One passenger, Heri, said the main impact hit the rear part of the CommuterLine: 'The back of the train was badly crushed. Rescue workers immediately started evacuating us.'

As of 21:50, rescuers and local residents continued the evacuation. Some of the injured sustained injuries of varying severity, and a few were unconscious.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) mobilized all available resources to assist passengers and mitigate the aftermath. Franoto Wibowo, representative of the Jakarta operational region (DAOP 1), stated that work is underway to evacuate trains and the injured, and measures are being taken to restore traffic as soon as possible. KAI Vice President for Corporate Communications Anne Purba apologized to passengers and emphasized that the top priority is providing prompt assistance to all victims. The national search and rescue agency Basarnas also joined the response. Specialists from the elite Basarnas Special Group, equipped for complex railway rescue operations, were dispatched to the scene.
