Experts have shared their views on the introduction of the digital tenge in Kazakhstan and the timelines for its active adoption, reports Todayinfo.
The digital tenge is the third form of Kazakhstan's national currency, combining the properties of cash and cashless money.
This new currency will allow payments even without internet access, and it will also be possible to "program" payments.
The digital tenge exists in the form of tokens. Each token has its own denomination and consists of a set of symbols (letters and numbers), i.e., a digital code.
It was previously reported that the National Bank developed the digital tenge logo based on the typographical symbol of the tenge (₸). It is designed as a capital letter "T" with a horizontal line at the top.
The issuer of the digital tenge is the National Bank of Kazakhstan. It guarantees the stability and operation of the digital tenge.
One physical tenge is equal to one cashless tenge and one digital tenge.
The project is being implemented in stages: first in pilot mode, then moving to industrial operation. Experts noted that Kazakhstanis will be able to actively use the digital tenge starting from 2026, and there will also be an opportunity to use it abroad.
