After spending nearly $50 billion to expand Kazakhstan's Tengiz oil field, the American oil giant Chevron and its partners are facing new uncertainty. The investments were aimed at significantly boosting the country's oil production, but recent market and political factors are complicating the plans.
Chevron aims to increase production at the Tengiz field to 1 million barrels per day through new projects. However, rising project costs and logistical challenges are impacting the company's strategy.
“We are confident in the long-term prospects in Kazakhstan, but current conditions require us to reconsider our plans,” a Chevron spokesperson said.
According to experts, Chevron's experience in Kazakhstan could serve as a model for other international oil companies. The country's oil sector plays a significant role in the global market, and the Tengiz field is considered one of the largest in the world.
