Iran has made a new proposal to the US aimed at resolving tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, but envisions postponing the issue of the nuclear program, reports Todayinfo citing Bloomberg.
According to American sources, Tehran's proposal includes extending a ceasefire or reaching a full truce. In return, Iran is ready to restore the operation of the Strait of Hormuz and lift restrictions. However, negotiations on the nuclear program, including uranium enrichment, should begin only after the strait is opened.
The White House has received this proposal but has not yet given a concrete response. According to experts, such a scenario could advance negotiations, but is risky for Washington: easing pressure could deprive the US of key leverage in future talks on Iran's nuclear program.
