A number of cities in Kazakhstan, including Almaty, are expecting unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC), reports Todayinfo. Forecasters are warning residents of seven cities across the country about increased air pollution.
According to "Kazhydromet," on May 7, 2026, UMC are anticipated in Balkhash, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semey, and Almaty. During the night, unfavorable conditions may also be observed in Karaganda, Temirtau, and Aktobe.
What are unfavorable meteorological conditions? These are a combination of short-term meteorological factors such as calm, weak wind, fog, and inversion. These factors contribute to the accumulation of harmful substances in the surface layer of atmospheric air.
During UMC, city residents are advised to:
Reduce time spent outdoors, especially near highways and other sources of pollution. Individuals with chronic lung, cardiovascular, and allergic diseases should carry necessary medications when outdoors.
Earlier, at the beginning of May, residents of Atyrau reported a smell of burning and smoke.
