Almaty's mountains welcomed more tourists than all other resorts in Kazakhstan combined, reports Todayinfo.

According to EnergyProm, Kazakhstan's resorts hosted 4.9 million people in 2025, an 11.6% increase from the previous year. Over the past five years, the tourist flow has nearly tripled.

The absolute leader is the Almaty mountain cluster, which attracted almost 3 million visitors, accounting for over 60% of all visitors to the country's resort areas. This represents a 10% growth year-on-year.

Key attractions include Shymbulak, Ak-Bulak, Pioneer, and the year-round Oi-Qaragai resort. During the winter season of 2025/2026 alone, Oi-Qaragai welcomed over 365,000 visitors, a 28% increase from the previous year.

Borovoe secured second place with 463,000 visitors, showing a 33.6% growth. Mangystau ranked third with 370,000 visitors, although its flow decreased by 9.5%. Major recreation spots there include Aktau, the Kenderli coast, and Fort-Shevchenko.

Balkhash (183,000) and Alakol in the Zhetysu region (149,000) also made it into the top five.

The leaders in terms of earnings mirror the visitor numbers. The Almaty mountain cluster generated nearly 122 billion tenge, representing 61% of all resort area revenues. Borovoe earned 29.2 billion, and Mangystau 19.6 billion tenge.

We previously reported that in 2025, Kazakh citizens made 11.77 million tourist trips, with 87% being domestic. The most popular domestic destinations were Astana, Turkestan region, and Almaty. Kazakhs spent 1.13 trillion tenge on trips, with over half allocated to domestic travel.
