Former Kyrgyz security chief Kamchybek Tashiev, ex-deputy Kurmankul Zulushev, and former parliament speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu have been charged with attempting a coup, reports Todayinfo news agency.
Their lawyer Sherdor Abdykaparov stated that the charges are similar to those previously brought against other defendants in this case. All three were interrogated at the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, where they spent several hours before leaving the building.
Official bodies have not yet disclosed details of the case. According to sources, the investigation is linked to the so-called 'Letter 75' – an appeal by a group of citizens to President Sadyr Japarov calling for early elections. After its publication in February, the country saw personnel changes: several officials lost their posts, and some deputies, including the defendants, surrendered their mandates. A criminal case was later opened, and some signatories are already in pre-trial detention.
Earlier, President Sadyr Japarov said in an interview that he monitored the progress of 'Letter 75' from its appearance to its discussion in parliament. When the document was planned to be brought to a plenary session, authorities promptly intervened and took measures. In the same interview, Japarov answered questions related to Kamchybek Tashiev and his brother.
The next presidential election in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for January 2027.
