Ex-head of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev and two other former high-ranking officials have not been officially charged with attempting a coup, reports Todayinfo news agency.
Lawyer Sherdor Abdykaparov admitted his inaccuracy, stating he "formulated his thoughts incorrectly." According to him, Tashiev, former deputy Kurmankul Zulushev, and former speaker Nurlanbek Turganbek uulu were only summoned for questioning as witnesses.
"No official charges have been filed. The former politicians were called for questioning as part of a case where such charges might potentially be brought," the lawyer explained.
The investigation is linked to the "Letter of 75" — an appeal from a group of citizens to President Sadyr Japarov calling for early elections. After the letter's publication, several officials lost their positions, some deputies resigned their mandates, and some signatories ended up in pre-trial detention.
