The implementation of a cotton and textile cluster with a full production cycle in Kazakhstan was discussed, reports Todayinfo. Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Zhang Qihai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Xinjiang Lihua company.
The President was informed that the project would significantly reduce import dependence and provide the domestic market with competitive local products.
Zhang Qihai told Kassym-Jomart Tokayev that several facilities, including two cotton processing plants, have already been put into operation.
In the coming years, it is planned to launch facilities for the production of synthetic fabric materials, textiles, and clothing.
The project's implementation will allow for an increase in cotton cultivation areas to 52,000 hectares. Digital technologies and innovations such as drip irrigation will be used in agriculture.
In the first phase of the cotton and textile cluster, approximately 360 million dollars in direct foreign investment will be attracted, creating over 4,000 jobs.
The Head of State emphasized the cluster's importance for the development of the agro-industrial complex and light industry in the southern region of the country.
According to the President, attention should be paid to training qualified specialists from among local residents.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted the relevance of widespread use of water-saving technologies and also welcomed the introduction of "smart" digital solutions and artificial intelligence in this industry, considering the high cost of cotton production.
