The Interdistrict Criminal Court of Astana has issued a verdict against millionaire bloggers Yerbolat Zhanabylov and his wife Elmira Tolegenova, reports Todayinfo news agency.
Earlier, the court granted the bloggers' request to enter into a plea agreement. Recall that a few days ago they pleaded guilty and expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
Prosecutor Olzhas Khairullayev requested under the agreement a two-year suspended sentence for Yerbolat Zhanabylov, and for Elmira Tolegenova — two years of imprisonment with a two-year deferment due to the presence of minor children. The verdict is scheduled to be announced today at 16:30.
The couple is charged under paragraph 2 of part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (illegal entrepreneurship) and paragraph 1 of part 2 of Article 218 (laundering of criminally obtained income). Earlier, the prosecutor called this case a "precedent" and requested four years of imprisonment with confiscation of property for both.
