A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Tuapse, Krasnodar Krai, Russia, caused by falling fragments of unmanned aerial vehicles, reports Todayinfo citing the regional operational headquarters.
According to the operational headquarters, no one was injured in the incident. Significant resources were deployed to extinguish the fire: 122 specialists and 39 units of equipment, including units of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations. Tuapse Mayor Sergei Boiko had earlier introduced a drone attack threat regime, which remained in effect for more than four hours. During this period, a temporary accommodation point for residents was set up in one of the city's schools. A similar warning about a possible drone attack was also issued in Novorossiysk.
On the night of April 29, flight restrictions were imposed at airports in Krasnodar, Gelendzhik, and Sochi; later, airport operations were fully restored. Earlier, on April 16 and 20, the sea terminal in Tuapse had already been attacked, leading to serious fires. As a result of those attacks, an oil slick covering about 10,000 square meters was discovered in the waters near the port, and oil products were detected in the Tuapse River. As of April 27, specialists had collected more than 4,000 cubic meters of contaminated soil and a mixture of water and fuel oil at three sites. Cleanup work continues at the terminal, the river mouth, and along the coast. Booms and oil traps have been installed to contain the pollution.
