Massive disruptions in mobile internet services have begun in Moscow ahead of the Victory Parade, reports Todayinfo. Authorities attribute this to security measures related to the threat of unmanned aerial vehicle attacks.
According to news agencies, the first communication problems for residents of the capital began on Tuesday. Mobile internet disappeared in several districts, but most users retained the ability to make voice calls.
The official reason for these measures is to ensure security during the mass events on May 9. Amid increasing drone attacks, authorities are strengthening control.
Major Russian companies, including Sberbank and Yandex, had previously warned their clients about possible interruptions in online services and messengers. Observers note that this is part of a broader trend of increased internet control in the country, leading more Russians to use VPNs to bypass blockages.
