44-year-old Adilkhan Nurkhan, a resident of Besagash village, has been elected as the new mayor of Talgar, reports Todayinfo news agency.

The previous mayor, Arystanbek Abilkhaiyruly, left office in February 2026 after serving just over a year. His predecessor, Bakhyt Kurishbekov, was dismissed following the high-profile murder of Sherzat Polat.

Adilkhan Nurkhan was born in Taraz. He graduated from M. Kh. Dulati Taraz State University with degrees in law and finance/economics. Over the years, he worked in the economic and anti-corruption enforcement agencies of Zhambyl region, headed the Talgar district justice department, held leadership positions in the Almaty region Justice Department, and worked in both public and private sectors.

According to the Talgar election commission, 10,000 people voted in the election (out of over 43,000 registered voters). Three candidates were nominated: two self-nominees and one from the AMANAT party (Adilkhan Nurkhan). The winner received more than 7,000 votes.
