Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Maksat Kaliakparov stated that construction of light rail transit (LRT) in Shymkent is necessary, reports Todayinfo. According to him, such projects require detailed study, but they are crucial for large cities.
“Such projects require comprehensive study, and decisions are not made unilaterally by one body. They are discussed with the akimat; there are requirements: traffic intensity, population, infrastructure. So for now, on the agenda in other cities – in Almaty they are already being implemented, they are also moving to construction,” said the Vice Minister.
Answering a question about Shymkent, Kaliakparov emphasized that he personally supports the idea. “I believe that Shymkent needs this,” he added.
Recall that the LRT project in Astana has repeatedly been the subject of corruption investigations and criticism. Construction dragged on for years, and the launch was accompanied by criminal cases and accusations of embezzlement of budget funds. Earlier, the Astana akimat confirmed that the LRT launch is expected soon – within two to three weeks.
