A major controversy has erupted between US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, reports Todayinfo news agency.
The conflict began after Kimmel joked during a comedy monologue on April 27 that Melania Trump had 'a glow like an expectant widow.' The joke came in the context of an incident at a White House dinner where an armed man attempted to enter the hall where Trump and the first lady were present.
Melania Trump took to social media to accuse Kimmel of 'spreading hate' and called on ABC to take action against him. 'People like Kimmel shouldn't have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,' she wrote.
President Trump went further, demanding Kimmel be 'immediately fired,' describing the joke as 'a despicable call to violence.' White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt also criticized Kimmel, saying: 'Who, in their right mind, says a wife would be glowing over the potential murder of her beloved husband?'
Kimmel responded by saying his remarks were 'a very light roast joke' and were misinterpreted as a 'call to assassination.' 'It was a light joke about the fact that he's almost 80 and she's younger than I am,' he said.
This is not the first time Trump and Kimmel have clashed — they have exchanged barbs on multiple occasions in the past.
