In two regions of Kazakhstan, inspectors detected contamination of quarantine cargo with dangerous weeds, reports Todayinfo.

The first case was registered in Aktobe region. Specialists of the committee of state inspection in the agro-industrial complex, while inspecting a batch of 50 tons of feed barley imported from Bashkortostan (RF), found signs of quarantine objects. Phytosanitary examination confirmed the presence of ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) and giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida).

The second case occurred in Kostanay region. During repeated phytosanitary control, contamination was detected in a batch of three tons of guar seeds. The examination confirmed the presence of ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia).

The committee reported that administrative protocols were drawn up for both cases, and the materials were sent to court. Ragweed is classified as a particularly dangerous quarantine weed. It depletes the soil, reduces crop yields, and its pollen is a strong allergen.
