Kazakhstan continues to digitalize its gas sector. Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov announced at a government meeting the introduction of a new system based on computer vision technology, reports Todayinfo.

The service works through a mobile app: users simply take a photo of their gas meter, and the system automatically recognizes the readings and serial number. This eliminates manual entry errors and speeds up data transmission to the gas supply organization.

“The service works through a mobile app: the user just needs to take a photo of the meter, after which the system automatically recognizes the readings and the device’s serial number. This helps avoid errors in manual data entry and significantly speeds up the process of transmitting information to the gas supply organization,” the minister said.

The system’s functionality goes beyond data collection. The AI model analyzes accumulated information and generates long-term gas consumption forecasts. This enables more accurate supply planning, infrastructure load optimization, and cost reduction.

The pilot project is being implemented jointly with QazaqGaz in several regions. In the future, the service is planned to be integrated with eGov Mobile, making it accessible to a wide audience and embedding it into the familiar digital ecosystem of government services.

The expected results are significant: data transmission accuracy could increase to 86%, and the economic effect could reach 300 million tenge per year solely through optimizing the gas supply operator’s costs.
