Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in St. Petersburg and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This comes amid Tehran's new proposal to the US, reports Todayinfo news agency.
Araghchi previously visited Pakistan and Oman. These countries have served as mediators in peace negotiations between Iran and the US. Tehran proposed to Washington to open the Strait of Hormuz, lift the blockade of ports, and conclude a long-term truce. Negotiations on the nuclear program are proposed to be postponed.
US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News: "If they want to talk, they can come to us or call. There are phones too. We have excellent secure communication lines."
"We have always had close consultations with Russia on a wide range of issues, especially at the regional level, and bilateral negotiations have been held constantly," Araghchi said after arriving in St. Petersburg.
Araghchi was met at Pulkovo Airport by Russian officials and Iran's Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali. According to Jalali, Araghchi will discuss with Putin the latest developments of the war in Iran. This is Araghchi's third stop in his diplomatic efforts to end the war.
