The Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved in the second reading a new bill on elections of local representative bodies. The majority of deputies supported it.
According to the bill, akims of districts, cities and regions will be directly elected by the population. Also, the counting of voters will be digitalized.
The new procedure will come into force from the next elections in 2027.
