The Supreme Audit Chamber identified large expenditures related to grants in Kazakhstan's education system, reports Todayinfo news agency. According to chamber member Kaskyn Kaskin, about 24,000 students were expelled from universities in 2022–2024, with 19.6 billion tenge spent on their education.

Additionally, for 10,000 people, there is no information in the system about used grants. "Another 1,500 graduates have the status 'seeking employment,' which is formally considered fulfillment of obligations, but in fact does not provide specialists to the economy," he said.

Problems were also found in university infrastructure. For the 2024–2025 academic year, the shortage of dormitory places exceeded 10,000, and the discrepancy between ministry and operator data amounted to over 31,000 places. The housing provision level is below 70%: at ENU — 51.7%, at KazNU — 56.7%. These universities spent over 133 million tenge on purchasing vehicles for administrative needs.
