Kazakhstan continues to promote international initiatives in the field of water resources and environmental development, said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev speaking at the Regional Environmental Summit.

The head of state announced the start of international consultations on the creation of a new global structure.

"Along with our regional efforts, one of the key priorities is global cooperation in the field of water resources.

In December last year in Ashgabat, I proposed to create an International Water Organization as a UN agency.

This initiative is particularly relevant because the UN is currently reviewing thousands of mandates, providing an opportunity to strengthen coherence and effectiveness of global governance.

I am pleased to note that within the framework of this summit, the first round of international consultations on this proposal will take place," noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President also spoke about the development of environmental volunteering in the country.

"In addition, we initiated the nationwide movement 'Taza Kazakhstan'. The broad public campaign is aimed at raising environmental awareness and civic responsibility.

This movement has united nearly a million volunteers who, in my opinion, are true patriots of Kazakhstan. Their selfless service shows how much they care about their country and its future.

We welcome and fully support the UN decision to declare 2026 the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.

In our new Constitution, the volunteer movement has taken a worthy place, and now support for volunteers is a duty of the state," emphasized the head of state.

In addition, Tokayev noted the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in solving environmental problems.

"This year has been declared the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in Kazakhstan. It is obvious that successful solution of environmental problems is impossible without AI.

Artificial intelligence opens up new opportunities for protecting natural resources and improving environmental management. Therefore, we are ready to support the creation of a Regional Digital Ecosystem," said the President of Kazakhstan.
