Kazakhstani applicants are choosing professions that may disappear in the coming years. This was stated by Mazhilis deputy Askhat Aimagambetov during a government hour.

According to him, the number of state educational grants has reached 77 thousand, but the distribution model is outdated. “This model was created before the advent of ChatGPT. It does not take into account which professions will be at risk of automation in three years. In 2025, the highest competition is for ‘Translation’ – 16 people per place, ‘International Relations’ – 13, ‘Law’ – 8. These are the areas that artificial intelligence will automate first,” the deputy said.

Aimagambetov noted that sectors important for the real economy remain vacant. “Livestock farming – 0.15 people per place, metallurgy – 0.07. We allocated tens of thousands of grants to IT as a ‘profession of the future,’ but the employment of young developers aged 22–25 fell by 20% last year. We are training ‘yesterday’s coders’ in the era of AI that writes code itself,” he said.

The deputy also criticized the weak regulation of paid admissions to universities. “Universities continue to admit thousands of paid students in unpopular specialties. Citizens pay millions of tenge for diplomas in specialties that will not be in demand. According to the Ministry of Labor, by 2030, 56% of new jobs will be created for mid- and low-skilled professions. But we are training specialists with higher education 5–6 times more than needed,” he concluded.
