In Astana, the trial of bloggers Yerbolat Zhanabylov and Elmira Tolegenova continues. Today the defendants were to give their final statements, but Tolegenova did not appear in court, reports Todayinfo.kz citing Tengrinews.kz.
According to the defendants' lawyer Gaukhar Aitzhanova, her client was unable to attend court due to health reasons.
"I learned about her deteriorating condition an hour and a half before the hearing. We hoped she would get better. Now she has called a doctor. Therefore, I will provide supporting documents later. I physically did not have time to come," the lawyer explained.
Judge Adilbek Baimakhanov noted that no documents confirming Tolegenova's health condition were submitted during the hearing.
"Since there are no documents confirming Tolegenova's health condition, the court gives you two hours. During this time, either provide supporting documents or connect the defendant online. If documents are not provided, the court will regard the absence as unjustified and obstructing the criminal case. Otherwise, the court will take appropriate measures," the judge said.
In this regard, the judge announced a two-hour break.
