"The suspect in the shooting... after being detained told law enforcement that he intended to shoot at Trump administration officials," the TV channel's material says.

Another source in law enforcement said the suspect did not clarify whether his target was specifically the administration, not Trump himself.

The person who shot at the White House correspondents' dinner attended by Donald Trump in Washington turned out to be 31-year-old Cole Allen from California.

The man is a teacher from Torrance, California. According to his LinkedIn profile, Allen graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and last year earned a master's degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

According to the Federal Election Commission, in October 2024 he donated $25 to Kamala Harris's presidential campaign.

Authorities believe no one else is involved in the incident. Police have suggested that the suspect was a guest of the Washington Hilton hotel. According to Allen's neighbor, the man may have had mental health issues.

The suspect was arrested Saturday evening before entering the journalists' dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel in Washington, attended by Trump, US First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance. Trump reported that the shooter managed to wound a security officer.
