Japan's JAXA space agency launched a new automated research mission to the Moon's south pole. The spacecraft successfully lifted off from the launch site.

The mission aims to study water-bearing craters at the lunar south pole and prepare for future crewed missions.

The project involves NASA (USA), the European Space Agency ESA, and India's ISRO.
