Kazakhstanis are massively buying the ruble: demand for the dollar has decreased, reports Todayinfo news agency.

According to the National Bank, in March 2026, net sales of the Russian currency amounted to 7.4 billion tenge, which is 7 times higher compared to February. Prior to that, for 14 months, demand for the ruble was negative: clients sold more than they bought.

“In March, the ruble weakened significantly against the tenge – the average monthly exchange rate was 6.10 tenge, the lowest in a year,” said a message from the DATA HUB Telegram channel.

Demand for the dollar decreased by 22% month-on-month, but increased by 44% year-on-year. In March, the average monthly dollar exchange rate was 489.31 tenge, down 1.3% from February. For the euro, net sales amounted to 12 billion tenge, up 14% month-on-month, with little change year-on-year. The average monthly euro exchange rate was 566.32 tenge.
