Kazakhstan's government bonds are planned to be connected to Euroclear, one of the world's largest depositories. This was announced by the National Bank.
According to the National Bank, a direct communication channel with the infrastructure of the Kazakh securities market will be created for this purpose. After that, foreign investors will be able to directly purchase Kazakh government bonds through Euroclear. This will be an additional option to the existing Clearstream channel.
The National Bank noted that the project will increase the liquidity of the government securities market, reduce infrastructure barriers and operational costs, and strengthen foreign investors' interest in Kazakhstan.
Euroclear is one of the world's largest financial depositories. The company holds assets worth approximately 40.7 trillion euros, serves about 3,800 clients, and conducts around 331 million transactions annually.
Earlier, National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov commented on the strengthening of the tenge. According to him, high oil prices increase foreign currency inflows and create positive expectations in the market. Seasonal factors also play a role: in the first months of the year, demand for foreign currency is low, while investment program activity and import demand growth begin closer to summer.
